Endometriosis & PCOS
What is Endometriosis and PCOS?
Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) are two very common female conditions that Tanya supports in her clinic and educational website blogs have been written on both of these conditions for supporting sufferers.
A Naturopathic treatment plan for both conditions will be highly individualized and treatment goals will vary from person to person.
With endometriosis for example, science understands that whilst it is a condition worsened by hormonal imbalance, it is in fact a dysregulated immune response that is the main cause. Balancing your immune system is key for this reason. Other important aims are to balance estrogen and progesterone, support liver detoxification and optimal digestion so that excess bleeding, pain, and other less obvious impacts on the body are reduced. Tanya regularly treats women with endometriosis on the colon, which is a trigger for frustrating gut related symptoms and distress.
A conversation around PCOS and what might be causing it
As a naturopath, meeting women in my wellbeing clinic to support regular menstrual cycles, balanced female hormones, weight issues, hair growth known as hirsutism on the face and all parts of the body and acne that just won’t go away is a weekly occurrence.
Whilst insulin driven PCOS that drives elevated testosterone is a common cause, more and more in clinic I am finding women that been diagnosed with PCOS, yet their testosterone levels are normal and when I check insulin at fasting, 1 and 2 hours I find that insulin is also normal.
Treating Endometriosis and PCOS
In both endometriosis and PCOS, stress and diet can worsen symptoms significantly.
PCOS is another common female condition. Often driven by insulin resistance but not always, supporting healthy blood glucose balance is often an important aim. An imbalance of testosterone, estrogen, progesterone is also important to rectify so that healthy ovulation, reduced weight & acne and improved fertility outcomes can be achieved.
Tanya incorporates specific testing when needed which is combined with dietary and lifestyle strategies, specific supplements, and liquid herbal medicines.
